What I’m Reading This Fall

Fall Reading

I am so excited for Fall. I am looking forward to cool weather, hot cider, and pumpkin spice everything. But most of all, I’m excited about the books that I’m going to read.

Here are some of the books that are on my TBR this Fall:

Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

Strangers 1

Synopsis: Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these 10 days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next 10 days are going to be.

I love love love Liane Moriarty’s writing. She is a master storyteller. Big Little Lies is one of my all-time favorite books. I didn’t love her most recent book, Truly Madly Guilty, as much Big Little Lies, but I’m hoping that this new book will be just as good. The plot is intriguing because it takes place in a luxury health resort.

The Burglar by Thomas Perry

Burglar 1

Synopsis: Elle Stowell is a young woman with an unconventional profession: burglary. But Elle is no petty thief – with just the right combination of smarts, looks, and skills, she can easily stroll through ritzy Bel Air neighborhoods and pick out the perfect home for plucking the most valuable items. This is how Elle has always gotten by – she is good at it, and she thrives on the thrill. But after stumbling upon a grisly triple homicide while stealing from the home of a wealthy art dealer, Elle discovers that she is no longer the only one sneaking around. Somebody is searching for her. As Elle realizes that her knowledge of the high-profile murder has made her a target, she races to solve the case before becoming the next casualty, using her breaking-and-entering skills to uncover the truth about exactly who the victims were and why someone might have wanted them dead.

This plot reminds me of the movie The Bling Ring except this cat thief is operating a one-woman show. I have always been fascinated by the glitz, glamour, and the celebrities of the Los Angeles area; throw in some dead bodies and a thriller vibe and I’m all in. Thank you to Grove Atlantic Books for providing my advance copy.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Patient 1

Synopsis: This psychological thriller examines the relationship between psychotherapist Theo Faber and his patient Alicia Berenson, who becomes mute after she is hospitalized for murdering her husband. Alicia Berenson’s life was seemingly perfect. She’s a famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, and lived in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word. The book explores the relationship between doctor and patient with some very shocking twists.

This book has a lot of buzz and amazing Goodreads reviews. Thank you to Celadon Books for providing my advance copy.

Forget You Know Me by Jessica Strawser

Forget 1

Synopsis: Molly and Liza are close friends who plan to reconnect with a nice long video chat over wine after the kids are in bed. But when Molly leaves the room to check on a crying child, a man in a mask enters, throwing Liza into a panic—then her screen goes black. When Liza finally reaches Molly, her reply is icy and terse, insisting everything is fine. Liza is still convinced something is wrong, and that her friend is in danger. She begins looking into the situation and what she finds out is not what she expected.

Jessica Strawser is the queen of domestic suburban mysteries. Her most recent book, Not That I Could Tell, centers around a woman and her kids who went missing after a night of drinking wine with her female neighbors. I enjoyed that book, and I’m looking forward to this one. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for offering me an advance copy.

Publish Date: February 5, 2019

Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Daisy 1

Synopsis: This book is about a fictional rock band in the 60’s. Daisy is a beautiful girl with a knockout voice coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding and magnetic Billy Dunne. Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legends.

Sex, drugs, rock n’ roll, and great early reviews had me wanting to get my hands on this book. It’s also been optioned for a limited Amazon Studio series by Hello Sunshine, which is Reese Witherspoon’s production company. Reese has raved about this book and I can’t wait to dive in. Thank you to Random House – Ballatine for providing my advance copy.

The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton

Perfect Girlfriend

Synopsis: YOU’VE NEVER READ A LOVE STORY AS TWISTED AS THIS. Juliette loves Nate. She will follow him anywhere. She’s even become a flight attendant for his airline, so she can keep a closer eye on him. They are meant to be. The fact that Nate broke up with her six months ago means nothing. Because Juliette has a plan to win him back.
She is the perfect girlfriend. And she’ll make sure no one stops her from getting exactly what she wants. True love hurts, but Juliette knows it’s worth all the pain… If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they’re yours. If they don’t, make them.

This summary immediately drew me in! A cray cray ex girlfriend who is obsessed and stalking her former boyfriend. Is it as twisted as I think it will be? I’ll read and find out. Thank you to Harlequin – Graydon House Books for providing an advance copy.
