Jade and Cam Lasky are by all accounts a happily married couple with two adorable kids, a spacious home and a rapidly growing restaurant business. But their world is tipped upside down when Jade is confronted by a masked home invader. As Cam scrambles to gather the ransom money, Jade starts to wonder if they’re as financially secure as their lifestyle suggests, and what other secrets her husband is keeping from her.

Cam may be a good father, a celebrity chef and a darling husband, but there’s another side he’s kept hidden from Jade that has put their family in danger. Unbeknownst to Cam and Jade, the home invader has been watching them and is about to turn their family secrets into a public scandal.

With riveting twists and a breakneck pace, My Darling Husband is an utterly compelling thriller that once again showcases Kimberly Belle’s exceptional talent for domestic suspense.

Kimberly Belle is one of my favorite thriller writers, so I am especially excited to be sharing a review of this book.

Cam Lasky is known as The Steak King of Atlanta. He’s a successful chef and restauranteur and if you want to score a table at one of his exclusive restaurants, you have book months in advance or be a super-celeb like Ariana Grande.

Cam seems to have it all, including the perfect family: beautiful wife Jade and daughters Beatrix and Baxter, (AKA the Bees). But there’s more than meets the eye. There are many secrets being kept behind those kitchen doors that eventually bleed into Cam’s home life.

A home invasion occurs while Jade and the Bees are home and then it’s a race against time for Cam to save his family. This is one of the most terrifying things that could happen and would leave us mere mortals suffering from PTSD for a long time.

The tale is told from multiple points of view: Jade, Cam, and the unnamed intruder. Cam’s on the outside trying to get in; Jade and the girls are on the inside trying to get out.

I loved the inside peek into the restaurant business, and the lavish lifestyle of the Lasky family. They are very relatable yet enviable (up until the home invasion). The desperation and helplessness of Cam Lasky is palpable, and kept me reading. I wondered how this family would get through this ordeal.

I loved Jade being portrayed as a strong woman whose acts of bravery are a wonderful example for her daughters. I loved how the secrets unfolded slowly as the story progressed, and we found out everything by the end.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars 5 Stars

This book is about money, secrets, lies, family, marriage, loyalty, and relationships. It was a fast-paced roller coaster of a story and kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I loved it.
