Book Review: The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

Last Mrs. Parrish

My rating: 4 of 5 stars 4 Stars

If something is too good to be true, it probably is.

The Last Mrs. Parrish is a fresh and addictive psychological thriller with surprising twists and a satisfying ending.

Parrish 2

This book is about Amber Patterson, a manipulative woman who worms her way into the lives of a wealthy “golden couple” from Connecticut to achieve the privileged life she wants.

Amber feels that she deserves more. She wants a life of money and power like her new friend, the blond-haired, blue-eyed stunning Daphne Parrish.

Daphne and her husband Jackson live in a fairytale. They have money, power, and they are deeply in love. They are blessed with two lovely young daughters, Tallulah and Bella. They have multiple luxurious homes with beautiful furniture, exotic cars, household staff, designer clothes, and everything that money can buy.

Amber befriends Daphne and before long, Amber is Daphne’s BFF, traveling to Europe with the Parrish family, and growing closer to Jackson.

Will she become the next Mrs. Parrish and get everything that she’s ever wanted?

Book Review: Lie to Me by J.T. Ellison

Lie to Me

My rating: 5 of 5 stars 5 Stars

This book hooked me from the opening chapter all the way until the end.

Yes, it was that good.

Every time that I thought that I had this book sorted out, like oh, THIS is the truth and THESE are the reasons why this is all happeningWRONG! The plot twisted again and I am surprised.

This book is a MUST READ!

Lie 5

Ethan Sutton wakes up in his luxurious, immaculate Victorian home in Franklin, Tennesee, to find a note on the kitchen counter from his wife, Sutton. The note says that she is a coward and not to look for her.

Ethan is worried, angry, hurt, and baffled. Where is she? Did she leave him? Or – is she suicidal? Should he call the police, or just keep looking on his own? It’s always the husband that is the suspect when a wife disappears – is he ready for that spotlight?

This is the story of Ethan and Sutton, told in two timelines: THEN – Ethan and Sutton in happier times, and the events leading up to the present; and NOW– After Sutton goes missing. We experience the story through Ethan’s perspective in the first half of the book, and Sutton’s perspective in the second half of the book. An unnamed narrator’s perspective is sprinkled throughout, along with detective Holly Graham’s.

We follow Ethan and Sutton from their initial, magnetic first meeting in a bar, to the happy, loving, intoxicating first years of marriage and building their life together, to the unraveling of the marriage and all of the horrible things that they do to each other. Happy Release Day! Artemis by Andy Weir

Release 3

I am very excited that Artemis by Andy Weir is being released TODAY!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars 5 Stars

Publish Date: November 14, 2017

I highly recommend this book!

Artemis   Artemis

Artemis is a fast-paced, standalone action/adventure story about a heist that takes place on a city on the moon. The main character is Jazz Bashara, a twentysomething smart, funny and resourceful porter who delivers packages with a side job of smuggling. I describe her as “MacGyver-esque”.

Who the heck is MacGyver!? MacGyver is an American action-adventure TV show from the mid-80s/early 90s about top secret government agent Angus MacGyver.

Wikipedia describes MacGyver as, “Resourceful and possessing an encyclopedic knowledge of the physical sciences, he solves complex problems by making things out of ordinary objects, along with his ever-present Swiss Army knifeduct tape, and occasionally matches. He favors non-violent resolutions and prefers not to handle a gun……Oh my goodness, this is Jazz and I think Andy Weir based her off of MacGyver!

I dove into this book without any expectations. I have not read The Martian. I do not know anything about Andy Weir. And I usually avoid science fiction novels. So I surprised myself by loving this book!

Why do I love this book? It is everything that I hoped it would be. The writing is phenomenal, the plot is fast paced, the characters are well developed and interesting, it’s realistic, and the setting is unusual and very memorable. I didn’t even realize that I was learning something about science!

If everyone wrote like Andy Weir, I would read more science fiction books.

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for The Wife Between Us!

The quote below is from this article. I think it’s very relevant to the theme of this book.

Wife 4

Two women. One is older, one is younger. One marriage is over, the other is about to start.

Nellie and Vanessa love the same man – Richard. Nellie is engaged to him; Vanessa is the former spouse. Sounds like your typical love triangle, right? YOU ARE WRONG!  This book will turn you on your side. You think that you know each woman’s story. Just as you get to know Nellie and Vanessa and you start to predict what happens next… BAM! Surprise! Details are uncovered that leave you feeling ambushed and flabbergasted. It’s been a while since a book has done this to me.

Everything You Want Me To Be 11

This book gave me a book hangover.

If you don’t know what that means – it means that it’s GOOD!

I finished this book, and it lingered in my mind for days afterwards as I processed the plot, the themes, the character observations and motivations. I thought about “what ifs” and what twists and turns could have occurred. It takes me a few days to move on from a book like this. That’s a book hangover for me.

Everything You Want Me To Be 22

This is the murder mystery of Hattie Hoffman, a high school senior soon-to-be graduate in a small Midwestern town. Her passion is acting, and she has big dreams of pursuing acting in a big city. She is alive for most of the book and the plot centers around the events leading up to her murder and after. Continue reading “Book Review: Everything You Want Me To Be by Mindy Mejia”
